Well spring has now sprung, and we have probably noticed it this year more than others.
Portuguese restaurants opened a couple of weeks ago, and are struggling with social-spacing which is going to be tough, probably the sign of things to come within the UK , oh well only time will tell.
What is good to see is that more people have become wine curious and really tasting more Portuguese wines from all the different regions really great to see! , not just the fact that people are buying Portuguese wines ,they are also looking at the grapes and the wine regions, okay the Douro and Lisbon are still the first Ports of call (sorry about the pun) but that is to be expected as it reminds them of holidays past, however they are also venturing into the Alentejo and Dao regions to advance their tastes.
pun weather has also been a huge bonus in the UK , with people moving from Reds to White wines a lot quicker , sales of the lighter reds have still been selling as in my opinion BBQ foods such as steak, sausages and burgers are fantastic with red from the Alentejo or Lisbon, I am also not adverse to also chilling for 20 /30 minutes. As for white wines those with the Arinto grape are stunning with alfresco dining with that lemony sharp taste really adds to the nature of grilled food , wines like Lisbon Mustache should absolutely hit the mark, Whites from the Douro are also great with grilled foods.
For an aperitif the wines from Vinho Verde are just the ticket with Alvarhino and Loureiro taking centre stage , these 2 wines will never offend the palate and great to welcome guest to the outside Socially distanced Soiree, you will be having in weeks and months to come.
