I Think we all need a little inspiration after the last 4 weeks, 4 weeks I hear you cry we have only been in lock down for a week and a half, well for the wine and restaurant trade this has been a slow and gradual decline leading to a huge bang!
Its not only lowly suppliers of great Portuguese wines who are suffering, the Wineries themselves are of course all in lockdown with no trade of their wonderful elixir leaving the country putting a great strain on these small family run businesses to Keep calm and carry on.
For me there is always a silver lining to all events almost like a yin and yang, although our restaurant has closed for the time being like others, the wine company continues to carry on and offers free delivery locally.
I am finding that families have again been forced together and are rediscovering not only the art of conversation and spatial awareness also cooking, as we turn our hand to 3 meals a day cook books have been brought down from dusty cupboards were the great and the good reside in perpetual silence waiting for the chance to flourish once again , fanny Craddock, Robert Carrier and Delia have once again become the oracles of recipes once forgotten as well as the more modern Jamie’s, Ricks, Hestons, and Gordons.
And with these fine recipes of course fine wines are demanded and what better way to enjoy but with Portuguese Wines for every recipe there is a Portuguese wine that fits the bill.
